This morning and last evening the town of Samara took to the streets in celebration of Costa Rica's Independence Day. Uniformed students led the charge in the sweltering heat to musically enthrall all those who came to observe. It was a proud day, especially for "drummer boy" who was able to play in the parade without his uniform, wearing sun glasses and having only attended one of the twenty scheduled practices which he ended up leaving early due to a "nap" he had previously scheduled. So is the life of a drumming superstar. Midway through the morning parade which started at 8am, breakfast hunger set in and I locked my sites on the nearest corner store. I grabbed 4 bananas, proceeded to the register and thought I heard the clerk say 1,000 Colones (2$ dollars american). As I proceeded out, I was stopped and informed I had paid to much and was given 900 Colones back, bringing my grand total to 20 cents for 4 bananas. So is the life of a fruit eating gringo.U-V
